Investigation Continues in Crash that Killed 3 Marines and Critically Injured Another
February 14, 2012 – According to reports the investigation is continuing into the crash that killed three Marines and critically injured another Marine.
According to Orange County Sheriff’s Department three Marines from Camp Pendleton were killed in a single vehicle crash that critically injured a fourth Marine. The crash was reported at approximately 2:05 a.m. and occurred on Golden Lantern Street in Dana Point.
Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy spokesman Jim Amormino, said the Marines were in a Dodge Stratus that was traveling northbound on Golden Lantern Street and are believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed.
Deputies believe the driver lost control of the Stratus that crashed into a tree in the vicinity of Terra Vista. Amormino said that two of the Marines were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and a third died later after being transported to a nearby hospital.
